Jake Cayman is the author of:

The Cure, The Killer, and Russ Burton.

Like many, I’ve spent time in a variety of environments—rural farm areas, urban settings, suburban neighborhoods, even foreign deserts—experiencing an array of people and culture, finding fascinating all the varying personalities, motivations, and behaviors.

No matter the place, all people share a common trait: everyone tells stories, stories about their day, their past, their futures, about friends, enemies, lovers, threats, beliefs.

Inspired by these people—and recognizing that stories are a vehicle for human curiosity and understanding—I set out to write a novel, a story created not only to entertain but also to explore the internal lives of people, their actions, and their struggle to understand this brilliant yet mysterious world.

Story of the Story...

While observing Kokanee salmon struggle upstream, resisting the current and evading predators, expending every effort to reach their spawning grounds despite the inevitable sacrifice of their lives, Jake envisioned a parallel struggle in two individuals. These individuals, compelled by necessity, leave their hometown to face the unknown wilderness. Inspired by the determination of the salmon, Jake wrote his book with them in mind. In fact, the working title was "Fight Like Fish."
